Edmond golf, swimming, tennis,baseball, cheer represented at All-State

TULSA - The Edmond area had plenty of representation for the West teams in early week action of the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State Games. Golf got things started Monday morning with the East winning 16-8 in both the boys and the girls at Cherokee Hills in Catoosa. Memorial's Austin Kang and Santa Fe's Amanda Prasuhn represented the area boys and girls, respectively. The format was six 2-player matches with 6-hole segments of alternate shot, best ball, and scramble. One point was awarded after each segment and another point for the winning team of each match. Kang and Newcastle's Dalton Daniel were the only West team to win their match, sweeping all four points in the process. Swimming was Monday night at the Jenks Aquatic Center. The West girls and East boys won 101-63 and 85-77, respectively. Deer Creek head coach Nathan Copher was the head coach for the West squads. Solomon Harrison of North and Deer Creek's Ryan Dillow represented the boys. Santa Fe's Riley Powelson, Amberly White of Deer Creek, and Memorial's Hannah Smith represented the girls. There were 11 total events, eight individual and three relays. Smith won a pair of individual races, the 100 breaststroke and the 200 IM. White and Harrison won the 500 freestyle and 50 freestyle, respectively. Santa Fe outfielder Dominic Trevino participated in the Large School Baseball Game on Tuesday at Oral Roberts University's J. L. Johnson Stadium. The East rallied with six runs in the sixth inning to win 8-3. Drew Rasmussen of Edmond Santa Fe was the recipient of a $500 OCA Scholar Athlete Award presented by the Oklahoma Coaches Association. Tennis was Tuesday at the University of Tulsa's Case Center. The West boys and East girls won 9-6 and 11-4, respectively. Brett Bormann and Hamza Chaudhry from North as well as Deer Creek's Tanner Brown represented area boys. North's Haley Morgan was lone area girl participant. Bormann and Chaudhry picked up an 8-2 victory in doubles. Brown teamed up with Logan Orr of Oklahoma Bible Academy for an 8-3 win. Area cheerleaders included Memorial's Caitlin Ball, North's Baylee Schroeder, and Santa Fe's Blaike Finley. The cheerleaders performed Wednesday at girls basketball and will do so again Thursday at boys basketball and at the football game Friday. Deer Creek's Chyanne Verble was on hand all week as a student trainer.
