OWASSO — Bryce Cabrera and Josh Proctor sent Class 6AI No. 2 Owasso into the playoffs on a high note on Friday night. Cabrera scored on five touchdown runs, and Proctor snagged an interception in the Rams’ 42-14 trouncing of 10th-ranked Edmond North at Owasso Stadium. The Rams improved to 9-1 overall and 6-1 in 6AI-2. They will host Westmoore in the quarterfinals of the playoffs on Friday. And they’ll do so with Cabrera riding high. The senior tailback rushed 18 times for 158 yards and five touchdowns, including runs of 5, 37 and 64 yards in the second half. In total, Owasso amassed 442 yards on offense — most of which came in the second half. For the first 24 minutes, it appeared as though Edmond North could lend Mustang an assist in 6AI playoff positioning. An Edmond North victory could have allowed Mustang into the 6AI playoff fold, but instead the Rams torched the Huskies for 28 points in the second half. In the first half, Cabrera scored his first two touchdowns on runs of 1 and 14 yards, and the Rams led 14-0 before the opening 12 minutes had elapsed. Edmond North (3-7, 2-5) cut Owasso’s lead to 14-7 on Will Appling’s 15-yard TD pass to Ben MacNaughton, but that’s as close as the Huskies would get. It was Proctor’s interception early in the third quarter that set up Cabrera’s 5-yard touchdown run that put Owasso up 21-7, and moments later Duece Mayberry picked off Appling, leading to Cabrera’s 37-yard TD run. And before the end of the third quarter, Cabrera got in on the passing fun. He hauled in a 38-yard touchdown pass from Will Kuehne to give Owasso a 35-7 advantage. Cabrera polished off the night with his longest touchdown run. By the end, the Rams had collected 207 yards on 35 carries. Kuehne finished 21-of-34 for 229 yards. Cabrera was on the receiving end of six of those completions for 89 yards.
