Enid mats go all Edmond

Three Edmond schools sent their wrestling rosters to Enid’s Mid-America Nationals tournament this weekend and 30 wrestlers from the schools advanced past the group stages during 324-participant tournament. Edmond North placed fourth overall for the 26-team tournament when they had 17 wrestlers place on the weekend. The tournament came to a head for the Huskies at the 195-pound bracket – where Noah Hooks and Jake McCoy both made it to the championship round. Hooks claimed the bout 9-0 on an injury default from McCoy, as the former remains undefeated in bouts this season. McCoy’s defeat in the finals was his first loss of the year, as the huskies has beaten every non-North competitor he’s seen. North compiled 187 team points; Tuttle led all schools with 296. Deer Creek finished eighth-overall with 120 team-points. JJ Gilbert scored the lion’s share of the Antler’s points when he finished second in the 106 bracket after losing a 7-0 decision to Keegan Luton. On the way to his runner-up claim, Gilbert won by four minor decisions, one major decision and a fall. Only four Santa Fe wrestlers made it to point-scoring position in the tournament when the Wolves finished 25th. Sutton Little, Dalton Raibourn, Khierron Sharp and Kameron Johnson grabbed 22 team points in the tournament, with Johnson using a team-best 9th place to grab 7 points. Johnson finished the weekend with a 5-2 record.
