EDMOND — Edmond North played its first game in a brand-new stadium Friday night, but the Huskies didn't give their fans much to cheer about.

Edlam rival Edmond Santa Fe, behind a suffocating defense and two touchdowns each from Tyler Travis and Ethan Hyche, spoiled the debut of Husky Stadium with a 31-7 win in front of about 8,000.

The Wolves (1-0) dominated on defense, limiting North to 144 total yards, including 91 passing. North quarterback Colby Entwistle completed 11 of 26 passes for 91 yards and a touchdown. His receivers dropped four passes.

“The kids played hard, they played well,” Santa Fe coach Kyle White said. “We executed. Typical first-game mistakes at times, but overall I felt like the kids played hard, they played with enthusiasm."

Santa Fe quarterback Kanan Hansen struggled at times, completing 13 of 29 passes for 151 yards. The run game carried the Wolves, with Travis rushing 24 times for 195 and two scores covering six yards and 30 yards. Hyche added 96 yard on 14 carries, with touchdown runs of 1 and 18 yards.

North avoided a shutout on a 2-yard pass from Colby Entwistle to Cole Karbs with 4:13 left.

The Huskies played with one returning starter on offense and five returning starters on defense, and were without starting running back Blake Minnick. Minnick who missed last season with a torn ACL, injured his other knee in last week's zero week loss to Yukon.

“Defensively, they played pretty good. Offensively, they still haven't really put it all together," North coach Tanner Roof said. “A lot of dropped passes, they're still not protecting very well. This is a little better feeling than Week One, but we've got to make vast improvements going into next week against Memorial.”

One of the few bright spots for North was senior Russell Dilks, who intercepted a red zone pass to stop one Santa Fe drive and recovered a fumble in the end zone to stop another. Dilks also rushed for 78 yards on nine carries.
