North takes Union Tournament

Edmond North’s volleyball roster won the Tulsa Union Tournament this weekend, besting Tulsa Union and Victory Christian before sweeping Edlam rival Santa Fe in straight sets during Saturday afternoon’s championship contest. Led by all tournament most valuable player Kamryn Bacus and all tournament team selection Gracie Burleson, the Huskies beat hosting Union on Friday before winning a close, grueling, five-set match against Victory Christian in Saturday’s first pairing. In that match, Bacus scored 27 kills and three aces, Burleson scratched 30 digs and six assists and sophomore Aubrey Cramer tallied five serving aces. North took sets two, four and five with scores of 25-18, 25-17, and 15-12 respectively. Taking the momentum from that crucial fourth set win with their backs against the wall, North steamrolled the final fifth set and transitioned that wave into a straight-set championship win over previously undefeated Edmond Santa Fe in Saturday’s championship. North took the championship sets by scores of 25-23, 25-22, and 25-22. Santa Fe’s Rorianna Chartier, who had 107 tournament digs, and Nalani McCrary joined Bacus and Burleson on the all tournament team. McCrary had 12 blocks on the weekend, and she hit with a .467 hitting percentage. The tournament marks the start of a brutal, two week stretch of games for each squad. Santa Fe met 6A No. 5 Stillwater on Tuesday, and North has pairings No. 4 and rival Deer Creek next Thursday. Santa Fe and North will meet again, soon, on Aug. 27 before both compete against local rivals in the Heather Harkness Tournament on Sept. 7. All four local 6A teams, who are all in the top-6 of the OSSAA’s volleyball rankings, will compete in that tournament.
