All eyes were on junior Kamryn Bacus on the final serve of the Regional Championship on Tuesday night.

As the ball left her palm, the Lady Huskies’ bench began to celebrate before you could say “Ace.”

6A No. 7 Edmond North punched its ticket to the 2018 OSSAA State Volleyball Tournament on Tuesday with sweeps against Enid and Yukon at Siberian Gym.

The Lady Huskies claimed their first win against Enid (25-13, 25-13, 25-9) then beat no. 10 Yukon (25-17, 25-18, 25-18) in the Regional Championship.

“It means so much. We’ve been working so hard the last couple of weeks in practice,” said junior Kamryn Bacus, who recorded 10 and 16 kills in the regional matchups, respectively. “Just to see everything kind of fall in place on the court just means a lot.”

Head Coach Cody Walker praised Sarah Holmes, Lily DeGrace, and Haylee Stokes for being pivotal in the wins Tuesday. He said that defenses adjusting to the outside attack opened up more opportunities for the trio.

“They got a lot more touches tonight,” Walker said.

DeGrace, Eliana Murray and Morgan George each hit at or above 40 percent against Enid, while Jadah Platt hit above 40 percent in both games, leading the Lady Huskies in the championship against Yukon.

Walker also cited the Lady Huskies’ serving in the championship for keeping Yukon out of reach. North recorded 13 aces in the Championship.

Bacus said that practice will be important for the Lady Huskies at the State Tournament.

“A lot of the teams this year in the top five or six, we’ve gone back-and-forth and split games between each other,” Walker said. “So at this point, it seems like it’s kind of anybody’s game.”
