The 6A West Regional Wrestling Tournament was wrestled over two days this past Saturday and Monday. At the end of day two, the Huskies from Edmond North had amassed 279.5 points to out-distance runner-up Mustang who finished with 259 points. The Broncos of Mustang crowned six regional champions, one fewer than the 6A regional record held in a tie between Ed. North, Midwest City, Ponca City, and John Marshall.

Although the Huskies crowned just three regional champions, they had a total of 13 wrestlers place in the top 4 to qualify for the state tournament next Saturday at the OKC Fairgrounds. The Huskies did manage to break two records in the process of winning the team championship. Of their 13 state qualifiers (most in school history), nine are freshmen; that is the most freshmen state qualifiers from one team in the history of the Oklahoma State Wrestling Tournament.

Here is what Coach Schneider had to say about his Huskies, “Edmond North wrestling has a long tradition of winning and with 9 of our 13 state qualifiers being freshman, I don’t see that changing anytime soon. It will be exciting to watch our team compete this weekend. I expect to have several Huskies on the podium this Saturday and to see some great matches from our wrestlers”
